Historical Journey on the Chao Phraya River, from Ayutthaya to Bangkok

(one way by bus, return by boat. Participation: baht 400)

Traditional floating rice systems in Ayutthaya Province
With Dr François Molle and Chatchom Chompadist
Traditional rice systems, water and flood management, changes in rural life: discussion with farmers in Ban Nong Mon, a "floating village"

Field trip 3:
Orchards and raised bed systems in Damnoen Saduak area: the wealth of the delta
With  Dr. Roongnapa Korparditskul and Blandine Cheyroux
Transformation of rice fields in orchards, socio-economic and environmental issues. Conditions for the expansion of raised bed orchards (land, water, labour, capital); discussion with farmers

 

Film contest:

Students from faculties of journalism, associated with students in French or English languages, will present 3' short reportages on various issues, including

* Mae nam Chao Phraya river, tradition and modernism
* "Floating salemen": commerce along the river
* River tourism in the capital
* The garbage boat and the information campaign
* Life is a long quiet river
* Cleaning the river
* A river of life, from mural paintings
* Old man reflections along the river
* The Chao Phraya, a royal river
