Abstract
:
The
paper reviews the evidence of a yield gap in the Meklong sugarcane
sector and shows how it is conditioned by a limited use of
irrigation. Contrary to common wisdom, it is shown that the
problem is not access to water but plot leveling, which entails
very long durations of water application at the plot level and
correspondingly high pumping costs.
