Short description of the project and of its objectives :

One of the objectives of this project is to study the farmers' behaviour and attitude towards the pesticides used to control pests in grape orchards in the area of Damnoen Saduak, Changwat of Rajburi. Secondly, we will determine the quality and the quantity of residues in soil, water and grape fruits in a limited number of farms in order to evaluate the impact on environment of agricultural practices in grape fields. Using the results we will get from the interviews and from the analysis of residues, we would like to give suggestions for the appropriate strategy of pesticide usage and management in the case of grape orchards.
A questionnaire will be prepared and around 25% of the grape growers of the Amphoe of Damnoen Saduak will be surveyed. The sample of farmers will be randomized in each tambon where grape is grown. We will work for these interviews in collaboration with the Kaset amphoe of Damnoen Saduak. Samples of soil, water and grape fruits will be taken in about ten farms, spread out in the area. Residues of pesticides will be analyzed in a laboratory : we plan to analyze organophosphorus first because they are sprayed commonly in grape plots. The data will be analyzed, interpreted and lastly we will give suggestions to improve the agricultural practices developed nowadays and to reduce pesticides usage.
