Implementation of science
and technology for sustainable development in agriculture, education,
energy, environmental and public welfare in Greater Mekong Subregion
(GMS) has been placing as regional or even global important policy
since decades. Realization however still requires a lot more activities
and collaboration among the concerning countries. To initiate the
program, two regional meetings has been organized in Thailand with
audience from Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal,
Vietnam and Thailand. The outcome confirmed the readiness of collaboration
among the countries. A better understanding and more intensive experience
exchange are however still necessary to neutralize some different
background in e.g., science and technological development, in economic
performance and poverty.

The conference will create an excellent platform to
have extensive dialogues with countries world wide that also have
densely populated deltas and have to deal with a wide range of related
issues as a result. The main objective of the conference is to assess
what skills and capacities the "Publc Works Departments"
need to face the 21th century, enhancing sustainable development.
